I have been going to Island Point Lodge for many years. I listened in to the Orientation on day one even though I really didn't need it after so many years. I felt that I would be able to go out and catch fish with confidence based upon the information provided. There are hazards in these waters but if you follow the navigational aids and pay attention to your GPS and depth finder you should be OK. This year we met new people and they all caught fish. You have to remember that this is a do it yourself operation. That is why it is so economical. Basic boat operating knowledge is important as is basic fishing skills. I am returning next year and so are the new people that I met. Repeat customers is sure sign of a good operation. Worst fishing experience ever. Boats broke down twice. Paper map with little to no explanation of what you are looking at. He charged 3700.00 fraudulent on credit card because his depth sounders dont work and u hit ground everywhere without orientation. Before you book here check out petersburg chamber of Commerce. I wish I would have. 2 people DIED at this lodge in the last 3 years. Check also with Alaska state patrol. I am now staying next door at the best place in the area. Better food better lodging,covered boats,real working electronics, awesome food and staff at the same price without getting gouged for every piece of tackle or bait. CHECK OUT THE MAJESTIC EAGLE LODGE, Wendy Yates is such a sweet lady and great place to stay Awful experience. Poor accomodations and lack of fishing ambition and guidance from the owner and staff. Too busy counting his money and making folks pay surcharges for every little thing. Best fishing trip ever! Had the best fishing adventure you could expect. Salmon, Halibut, a boat ride along side a pod of killer whales. Great accommodations, trip everything a must do stop !!!
